Sinful Sparkle

Among many sinful pleasures, being a hardcore handbag addict is nothing that I am ashamed of. Honestly, owning a Coach or Gucci designer bag is of no interest to me because I crave handbags that are bold in color and going to make a statement. More importantly, not going to cost a small fortune!

Have you ever put on that perfect vintage inspired outfit only to discover you have no handbag to match? Insert “this girl” here!  You read right…with my extensive retro wardrobe, I had absolutely no handbags to compliment them. Why didn’t I own any fabulous retro handbags? The ladies in the pinup community were raving about Lux De Ville and from there I became infatuated with their entire line of sparkly handbags.

Looking for a basic handbag staple, I chose the Lux De Ville High Seas Tiny Tote in black & white. Do not let the name fool you, it is not tiny at all. On the contrary, this handbag measures 13 inches long, 9 inches high and 3 inches wide. The interior lining is a high quality leopard print satin like material featuring a zipper pocket for your beauty necessities. The chain link shoulder strap is the perfect length with a convenient magnet flap closure.

The cute little nautical anchor charms are removable in case they make a little too much noise for your liking and prefer hanging them from your review mirror. The best feature hands down is the pearl white quilted vinyl complimented by the shiny black. It is so fabulous in person! A note of caution, the metal bullet feet are quite sharp and will scratch delicate surfaces so be sure not to place it on leather seats or wood floors. The LDV High Seas Tiny Tote is also available in red, blue and solid black.

While attending my first Viva Rockabilly Weekender I decided to invest in a second LDV handbag. They were definitely a hot ticket item being sold at several vendors during the event. Being a die hard bargain shopper, it was a wonderful bonus to snag a LDV purse at 20% Off from Sourpuss. It was a toss up between the Sin City Kiss Lock and the Atomic Tote in blue sparkle but the Sin City won by a long shot with the fiancee.

This piece is the sparkle of any girls’ eye! I have never received so many compliments from complete strangers, all asking where I purchased this beauty from. Normally I personally do not like this particular type of shoulder strap due to the short length but the Sin City is an exception due to it’s wonderful comfort. There is plenty of space to stash a million goodies with the convenient kiss lock snap closure. The interior is lined with the famous LDV satin leopard featuring their classic logo on the exterior and interior. The cute silver dice are a perfect compliment to the design. Once again, beware of the metal bullet feet on any delicate surfaces. The Sin City Kiss Lock purse is available in blue sparkle, purple sparkle, white sparkle, red and black.

For those practical ladies like myself, the LDV handbags are perfect for everyday use. They are well constructed, easy to clean and suitable for a busy lifestyle. I have been using my LDV Sin City handbag daily since Viva this past April and it is almost as beautiful as the day it was new. There is slight wear showing on the straps where the rubber trim is pulling away but nothing a little glue can’t fix. Definitely worth every penny and I will continue using it non stop being so practical while making a statement!

Just Getting Revved Up –Part Deux–

So far you have heard about the first two days at Viva, but the main event is by far the vintage car show. Make sure to apply lots of sunscreen…it is always a hot one!

Saturday

This was the one day we were most excited about and the weather was definitely on our side. I spent a large part of the morning working on my first pinup hairstyle and makeup. To my surprise, it was a HUGE success! I will post some detailed photos later on for all to see. Once all dolled up, we headed out to the car show to meet the PUG models Stephanie, Kristina and Angelique Noir. To our surprise there was no line…it pays to be an early bird!  I was thrilled to get some incredible photos with these gorgeous ladies.

While visiting the PUG booth, I was spotted by two PP ladies…Jen and Drea. I was beyond flattered to be photographed with each of them, it still makes me smile. Hopefully next year I will run into a lot more of you ladies.

Since Lux De Ville was starting their Golden Ticket Giveaway at noon, we decided to go visit the other booths in the mean time. First stop, Sourpuss! They had some awesome sales on LDV purses so I scooped one up without a second thought. Going from booth to booth, we noticed a lot of similar items or lack there of. The hot ticket item was by far the parasols since it was so hot and sunny all day. The time flew by and headed back to the PUG booth for the LDV prize…a Starlite wallet in our choice of 4 colors. SWEET!

At the same time, Viva Cholita (Natasha) & Micheline Pitt started their signing at the PUG booth. Micheline was selling prints of her beautiful artwork and I was the first in line to score the lovely Pirate Girl print. I had been lusting over her for months and now she will be framed on my wall very soon.

We took a short break for lunch with the little Canadian crew at TGIF and quickly went back to the car show. This time we were going to see Masuimi Max, Erin Cummings and Doris Mayday. The line was quite long so we just hung out for a while and enjoyed some quality people watching. (Best place to people watch!)

For the remainder of the afternoon we visited more vendors and looked at the old cars to take it all in. It’s best to wear flats, again lots of sunscreen….plus don’t forget H2O!

Jessica (Me) & Darren

In the evening we joined Maralynn, Natasha and Stacy for dinner at Johnny Smalls inside the Hard Rock Hotel. We opted for the all you can eat menu so each one of us could sample multiple dishes. The food kept on coming….so delicious! At the end of our dinner it was photo opp time. These girls are so fricken’ amazing, it felt like we have known each other forever!

Once we arrived back at The Orleans, we took the opportunity to go see the girls headed to the Burlesque Competition (tickets sold out) and headed upstairs to the vendors for some more shopping. I purchased a couple necklaces by Classic Hardware and hair flowers from the gift shop.

Sunday

Who’s ready for the Pool Party??? Sunday’s main event was to lounge by the pool and the weather was so perfect! My fiancee and I headed there early in order to get the best spots by the pool. This was definitely another ideal place to people watch! All the lovely retro swimwear was an incredible sight to see. I wore my two piece swim suit by My Sugar Doll Swim with a simple red sarong.

Jessica (Me) & Ashleeta

The highlight for me was when a photographer requested to capture the gorgeous Stephanie Castro with her friend and asked for me to be included as well. I was in disbelief! I am NO model! Hopefully I can find the photo online, he gave us his business card thankfully.

Masuimi, Natasha & Laura

A little later we met up with the PUG crew. We were joined by Angelique Noir, Masuimi Max, Erin Cummings, Laura Byrnes, Micheline Pitt and so many more lovely ladies. It was such a memorable experience to chat with them…they are all so funny and truly wonderful. To look up to someone from afar for so long…now sitting next to them and hanging out was a dream come true.

Meredith & Julienne

The pool party finished off with the women’s vintage swimsuit competition. The contestants had to wear a true vintage piece, no vintage inspired or reproductions allowed. Micheline Pitt and Ashleeta took part in the competition. They both looked stunning. Micheline placed 2nd.

Sunday evening was the toughest time of the weekend, saying goodbye to a bunch of incredible friends. The Viva festivities were now over but we were already planning for next year.

Hope to see you there!!!

Let The Good Times Roll! –Part One–

After almost a year of anticipation, Viva finally arrived! For those of you that are unfamiliar, I am speaking of the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender which falls on Easter each year. The event is hosted at the Orleans Hotel & Casino from Thursday until Sunday. There are endless things to see and do, you will not be able to get them all in at once so plan your time wisely.

-Thursday-

We arrived around 1pm and immediately went to check into our hotel room at The Orleans. Not long after, we were on our way to my photoshoot with Vestige Photography at The Rumor hotel. Immediately I was greeted by Susana (Vestige), Jennifer Corona (makeup artist) and Madison Jane (hairstylist). These women have such amazing talent at what they do and made me feel like a million bucks! I wore a corselette by What Katie Did and Rago bodybriefer for my two looks. Being a complete newbie to pinup photoshoots, I was incredibly nervous and felt very self conscious. And yes, I am still really skeptical of my modelling abilities…but the ladies truly made me look glamorous. We shall see the final product in the near future.

After the shoot, we headed back to our hotel for dinner and quickly changed to head for the Pinup Girl Clothing event at Franki’s Tiki Bar. In the main lobby we ran into a few of the ladies from our online network which was so incredible! Once we arrived at Franki’s the night of great fun began! We met the rest of the group, along with the PUG crew…Vanessa Cheatwood, Micheline Pitt, Stephanie Castro, Natasha(La Cholita), Joe, Madelyn, Kevin, and more!

Stephanie, Angeli, & Jessica(Me)

Michelle & Jessica(Me)

The bar was packed from the moment we walked in and only increased as the night went on. Their fruity drinks were sinfully delicious (even being a non drinker) and the atmosphere was perfect to kick off the weekend. Meeting all the girls from our online network was a dream come true. It was like we have been friends forever and just clicked from the moment we laid eyes on each other. Being a non hugger, I was happy to put that aside for these gorgeous ladies! Our evening ended around 12:30pm since we were battling a 3 hour time difference…yuck!

Jessica(Me) & Natasha(La Cholita)

-Friday-

The day started off with a plan to line up for the Burlesque showcase tickets around 11am. Unfortunately the line was beyond ridiculous so we opted to pass and grab a buffet lunch with some friends – Maralynn, Stacy and Natasha.

Jessica(Me), Darren & Natasha

Right after, I made sure to make my way to the vendors upstairs to take part in the PUG Vintage Crawl. Sadly Laura was delayed and was unable to host the crawl so the lovely Micheline Pitt and Joe graciously led the pack. We visited various vintage kiosks and learned about what to keep an eye of for in our searches. After the tour was complete, I was eager to shop at all the indoor vendors. I will be doing a special post about all my purchases from the weekend…stay tuned!

Cynthia, Micheline, Justine, Angeli, Ashleeta, Jessica(Me), & Michelle

In the afternoon, we went to attend the Pinup Magazine Party. Sadly the space was so limited, we could not get a seat. Doris Mayday was signing autographs and there was a pinup competition being held as well. We had to leave as we were unable to find a place to enjoy the event. It was a real disappointment.

Jessica(Me) & Alicia Estrada(Creator of Stop Staring)

The evening was the highlight of the day, our special dinner with all the girls from our Facebook group together at last! We went to The Steak House at Circus Circus. It was a night of glamour, the ladies sure know how to get dolled up! To our surprise, we were graced by the lovely Laura Byrnes and Erin Cummings for our gathering. The food was delicious but more importantly the company was to die for. Erin is super sweet and absolutely stunning…she was blown away at the fact we have never met in person until now and just acted like old friends. Laura is a riot, she recognized me immediately and made a memorable introduction…she rocks!

Jessica(Me), Darren, Gail, Justin, Dan, & Michelle

After dinner, we were lucky to take part in a limo ride to the downtown Las Vegas strip. Our driver was a great tour guide and even took us to the Las Vegas sign to capture some great photos. Of course, the night was not complete without an appearance by Elvis and his pink Cadillac.

Jessica(Me), Michelle & Gail

Our first two days in Vegas were incredible…the days to follow were even better!

Stay tuned for Part Two…
