The Viva Show Stopper

Even with two suitcases overflowing with retro clothing for Viva, there was one dress I was anxiously awaiting and terrified it would arrive too late. I was thrilled to hear the Stop Staring Watercolor Winter Floral Dress was finally restocked, just in time for Viva! The fabulous Rachel at JBR Clothing offered to ship it to the hotel and have the parcel waiting for us upon our arrival. Everything worked out perfectly, I had the most fabulous dress to wear for the soiree at Franki’s Tiki Room.

One thing is certain, Stop Staring has very consistent sizing with all their clothing. The Large fit perfectly all over, such a relief getting it so last minute. The Winter Floral features cap sleeves and a well constructed wrap twist bust area to allow for ample room for the bustier ladies. The tapered skirt has the famous side rushing to flatter and conceal any tummy issues. It is the true definition of a classic wiggle silhouette. Pair it with your favorite shapewear, the fabric conceals all levels from Spanx to Rago.

The fabric on the Watercolor Floral Dress is breathtaking in so many ways…I would compare the look and feel to red carpet glam, it will turn heads wherever you go. The print is truly unique and not like any other I have seen, photos do not do it justice. Make sure to pair this with your highest heels to give you elongated sexy legs. For all nighter on your feet, a pair of white flats will also do the trick.

Never in my life have I received so many compliments from complete strangers and asked dozens of times where did I get my dress. I honestly felt like a superstar that night at Franki’s, the Watercolor Winter Floral was the biggest hit of the evening! Thankfully, no one else was wearing the same outfit although I did see many of the Watercolor Summer Floral at Viva. Alicia said she had so many requests for this dress at the Stop Staring booth but they did not have any available.

I lucked out with JBR coming to my rescue, always going above and beyond with their customer service. The Watercolor Winter Floral was the show stopper of all dresses for Viva…I’m very thankful to have so many incredible photos of that evening with tons of beautiful ladies. Summer Blossoms

After this review I will be all caught up on my purchases from the Viva Rockabilly Weekender and moving onto a bunch of new goodies for you ladies. It’s Friday and I’m enjoying a day off from the office with the most perfect summer weather to boot! I’ll try to keep this post short & sweet so you can start your weekend now. The Stop Staring Vintage Floral Swing Dress was another fabulous selection by the lovely Alicia Estrada, a refreshing switch from all their wiggle dresses.

Once again, I fit in the Large perfectly with no need for any alterations. At first glance, I was hesitant on this very pink floral print as this was definitely not my usual cup of tea )since it is ultra girly) but Alicia insisted on giving it a try. Let’s just say, she knows her clients better than they know themselves at times. As soon as I tried it on, I was smitten. The bust area is super well constructed to give the busty ladies great support even while wearing a strapless bra. The rushing is perfect to hide those trouble tummy areas with a delicately flared swing skirt, no petticoat required. If you are inbetween sizes in the bust area, definitely order up as there is no extra room to squeeze them in.

The Vintage Floral Dress has become one of my go-to outfits this summer…it works for pretty much every occasion. To make it work appropriate, just add a cropped cardi or shrug with a pair of wedges. For those of you that shy away from halter dresses, you can easily convert this to regular straps with the length provided. The Vintage Floral is also available in a wiggle style as well. I believe this print has been discontinued but there are still some online retailers that have them in stock.

A valuable lesson learned from Alicia, do not overlook any garment regardless of what you may think…give it a try as you never know how incredible it will look on you!

Cherries & Polka Dots…What More Can You Ask For In a Dress?

While at Viva, I spent a whole bunch of time in the Stop Staring stall searching for awesome bargains. The first item that caught my eye was the Cherry Dress, so cute but classic. As I mentioned before the creator of SS, Alicia Estrada was there helping the ladies shop for the perfect ensembles. She is a doll, super down to earth and a pleasure to get to know. Alicia truly appreciates her customers and listens to their feedback with an open mind.

Available in XS – XL & Plus Sizes 12 to 18 – MSRP $158USD

Without fail, I am always a size Large in Stop Staring clothing whether it is stretch or non stretch material. It is always a blessing to know your size is going to be spot on and not have to worry about fit. The bust features the classic SS wrap twist, perfect for a variety of bust sizes. The cap sleeves have a slight puff, creating a soft feminine touch. If you are concerned about your mid section, the side rushing conceals marvelously. The fabric is a high quality millenium stretch, note there is definitely not as much stretch as their bengaline.

The Cherry dress only requires light shapewear if any, even though it is a form fitting wiggle. Why? The thickness of the fabric conceals and is quite forgiving creating a sleek silhouette. Perfect for day or night, you can pair it with a simple pair of pumps or your highest stiletto heels. To complete the look, add a feather fascinator to your outfit.

With much excitement, I cannot wait for the Stop Staring Fall 2012 line to be released. JBR Clothing has shared some sneak peaks of what is to come and it is spectacular! If you enjoy Joan’s look from Mad Men, you will love the new styles coming soon. Classic and perfect to wear to the office. With the upcoming trade show in Vegas, we are sure to see many more previews for Fall/Winter.

Keep your eyes peeled to the Pin Up Persuasion Fanpage & on Twitter during the Magic Tradeshow…I’ll repost tons of sneak peaks!!!

Defy The Illusion

Our trip to the Viva Rockabilly Weekender was full of exciting new adventures. One of which I was uber excited for was visiting the Bettie Page Clothing stores. Why? As long as I have been passionate about this lifestyle, I have ALWAYS purchased everything online! There are absolutely no boutiques that cater to the pin up/rockabilly style anywhere close to where I live, definitely very depressing. Needless to say, I felt like a kid in a candy store walking into Bettie Page. Knowing all the styles and names was quite funny to my fiancee, but to me…this was a normal. We visited both Las Vegas locations of course and was thrilled to scoop up the Illusion Dress on the sale rack for $65…but it gets even better, there was another 25% off at the register!!!

Although the Illusion Dress is now discontinued, you can snag the new Alika Dress either in wiggle or circle skirt in a variety of colors. Available in S to 4X – MSRP $134-140USD.

When it comes to sizing in Bettie Page, I am all over the place depending on the style and fabric. It came as a total surprise the Medium fit perfectly in the Illusion Dress since it is not made from a very stretchy material (polyester/rayon mix) like bengaline. According to their size charts, I should be a Large based on my waist 29 and hips 41. Let’s just say I am so happy a certain someone told me to give it a try, I was convinced it would be too small. The length was perfect, no need to hem although I am only 5ft 4 inches. I would like to add that no alterations of any kind where required, it fit fabulously right off the rack.

The lovely netting around the nape of the neck is super elegant and not scratchy but comes with one small downfall…bra selection. You will ruin the classic look with a dark bra strap of any kind, it calls for a strapless or clear straps without a doubt. The Illusion Dress features capped sleeves with plenty of arm room and a contrasting belt. Since this particular one was on clearance and missing the belt, the Bettie Page clerk grabbed a lovely grey one from their back room to ensure I was not missing a complete outfit. Kudos to the staff at the Planet Hollywood location, they were so friendly and beyond helpful.

When it comes to accessories, I suggest to keep it very simple. The netting gives it a unique look and does not require much more. Pair this with your favorite Mary-Jane heels and vintage stud earrings. That’s it, you’re done! As for shapewear, you can get away with something with light support since the material is very forgiving. In these photos, I opted not to wear any shapewear at all so you could see how great it looks even without.

The best part of the whole shopping experience was the staff at the Planet Hollywood location, they truly care about their customers and offer them top notch service. I could have stayed there the entire day…fabulous customer service goes a long way these days! If you are not able to visit their stores…I highly recommend their online store as well. Their International shipping rates are very inexpensive (they offer free shipping promos often as well) and normally takes under 2 weeks to arrive to Canada. If you really love the Illusion Dress, search the internet as there are quite a few boutiques clearing them out!
