A skeptic turned believer…

This might come as a shock to some but when Pin Up Girl Clothing announced the launch of their new “Laura Byrnes Black Label” I was very apprehensive of change. The main issue that plagued me was the higher price point as I am always conscientious of being on a budget. So I decided to sit back and wait to hear from fellow PUG customers on their review of the new line.

Slowly but surely, the rave reviews were pouring in about the high-end quality fabrics and classic day to evening looks available. Hmm…that started to make me think maybe I was wrong to write off the new line solely due to price. Then came PUG’s fabulous Black Friday sale of 30% everything! Ok…now I HAD to take advantage and buy one Black Label piece to see for myself.

What was the item that turned a skeptic into a believer?

The Marlene in Green Tea Knit($128USD on sale for $90USD)

Marlene in Tea Green - True Color

Available in XS to 2X in tea green, navy, black, plum and silver.

My huge dilemma was sizing! According to the size chart I was a medium with exception to my hips (36, 29, 41) but a lot of the fanpage feedback mentioned to order up for a looser fit. I was torn! Thankfully the wonderful Micheline Pitt responded to my plea for help and recommended ordering up to be safe. I am SO glad to have purchased a large, it fit perfectly to be work appropriate.

Front & Back View

I cannot tell you how exquisite the heavy knit fabric is!Β  The material has memory stretch, so it will retain its shape and not stretch out with each wear. Did I mention that I am a sucker for kick pleats!

The simplicity of the style allows you to accessorize based on your personality, look, or setting you want. Here are a few ways I like to wear my Marlene.

Thankfully I came to my senses before I missed out on this spectacular new line! I am anxiously awaiting the release of a few new items…stay tuned for more reviews on Laura Byrnes Black Label.

Cute as a ladybug!

Introducing the Regina doll dress in red dot flock from Collectif Clothing!

The Regina doll is available in cherry print, leopard, solids, florals and polka dots. There is a color or pattern to suit everyone’s tastes. In sizes UK8 to UK22.

Regina Doll Dress in Red Dot Flock

I am not exaggerating when I say, this is one of my favorite dresses thus far! It is so adorable and best of all…more polka dots! I am sorry, but I can never say there is such a thing as too much polka dots in any retro wardrobe!

The international shipping is always super fast and affordable! I have not been charged duty on ANY of my Collectif orders to date…hope this does not jinx it.

I tend to wear a UK14(Large) in Collectif dresses with a bit of room to spare in the waist and bust.Β It seems the chart above is off by one size based on the fit of the Regina. My measurements are: Bust 36, Waist 29, Hips 41. I do need to have the shoulders taken up in order to keep the girls at bay but otherwise it fits very well.

The cap sleeves are not sewn down so there is definitely some breathing room if you normally find sleeves restrictive. I paired it with a black skinny belt to give a more defined high waist and black mary janes heels.

A view from all sides

If you are more a fitted dress kind of gal, the Regina is available in a wiggle. They are also offered in various prints and colors. The Regina is definitely a staple style at Collectif and loved by so many!

If you have questions about sizing, just send a quick email to shop@collectif.co.uk and they will gladly help you. I cannot say enough good things about Collectif! They are super friendly, helpful and offer amazing after sales service. They stand behind their products and want to ensure customer satisfaction.

Lucky for you, they are offering 40% off everything from Friday January 27 until Monday January 30 with discount code LOVE40.

A little inspiration from Pan Am!

When the show Pan Am began on ABC, the Vintage/Retro community were all a buzz about the stunning wardrobe the cast were wearing! The first few episodes featured dresses by Stop Staring. Christina Ricci’s character caught my eye when she was wearing a classic light grey wiggle dress…I just had to have it! After a little online research, I found it!

The Ashley dress in dove grey by Stop Staring – Available in sizes S to 3X in black, dove grey and powder blue.

Until now, I have not purchased any Stop Staring for one simple reason…PRICE! The Ashley dress retails for $145USD. Being a girl on a budget I was on a mission to find this dress at an affordable price!

Front View

Low and behold…enter Daddy O’s. They had the Ashley dress in a powder blue for a steal at $95 but out of stock in my size. I quickly sent them an email to see if they could order in the dove grey for the same price. Immediately they responded saying they would contact the supplier and let me know ASAP. Within a couple days the good news came…it was available! Order placed.

Stop Staring fit is very true to their size chart. I opted for a Large in the Ashley based on my measurements – bust 36, waist 29, hips 41. I did not size down as per the size chart since I wanted it to be workplace appropriate. It fits soooooo perfectly and the quality is wonderful. It is made from millennium stretch fabric that is utterly comfortable and versatile. The amazing quality does reflect the retail price tag to be completely honest.

Back & Side View

The Ashley comes with a charcoal grey belt but you can definitely accessorize it however you wish. You can dress is down for a casual day look for work or go glam for an evening on the town.

If you love something enough, do not let price get in the way of having it! There are always options out there, with a little research you will stumble upon what your heart desires. Stay tuned for a retailer review on Daddy O’s!

Your secret weapon…

Don’t you just hate when you can see those nasty lumps and bumps when wearing wiggle style dresses or skirts? Is there a way to fake that perfect silhouette when you have a curvacious figure without sacrificing comfort?

The answer is YES!!!

What is this secret weapon you ask…?

The Rago 1294 Open Bottom Girdle Extra Firm Shaping

Available in white & black sizes Medium/28 - 8XL/46

Based on my measurements, waist 29 hips 41 and my hips being 10″ larger than my waist, I went with a LARGE/30 .

The fit was amazing and the slimming factor blew me away! The side zipper allows for easy access, not a lot of shimmy required ladies! The hook & eye along the length of the zipper provides an easy and smooth closure. It has non detachable garter hooks. I have yet to wear it with stockings but I do not find the clasps bothersome.

The rigid front panel really works wonders on smoothing my trouble stomach area, while still being able to breathe. I was a bit concerned about the girdle showing through on the bengaline wiggle dresses but it does not seem to be a problem. You would have no idea what the person was wearing underneath…unless you look VERY closely,

You can wear just about any style underwear and not see those terrible panty lines! Yes, that makes me happy since not everyone wants to wear thongs. COMFORT RIGHT?

I have to mention that the open girdle does not create the dreaded thigh bulge. The material has enough stretch and rigidness to flatter your lovely thighs. I do find a minimal trouble area between the top of the girdle and the bra area. A simple tug & tuck on the girdle & bra seems to fix this rather easily.

So the fit was great…now the real test was to wear the Rago 1294 during an 9 hour work day.

How did it fair?

I have to say this is the most comfortable shapewear I have ever worn, no lie! I always find the stretchy(Spanx) type materials to ride up, shift, or cause uncomfortable chaffing. The Rago 1294 stays in place very well and adjustments are very limited.

It’s not perfect, as all shapewear has its quirks but this is by far the MOST well made and comfortable shapewear at an affordable price! It retails for $56, but a lot of online retailers sell it for much less.

Being a girl on a budget, I picked this one up on sale for $35 at Orchard Corset!!!

For those that are avid Pin Up Girl Clothing customers, they just announced that they will be carrying the Rago 1294 very soon!

Ladies…this is your secret weapon to achieve that perfect silhouette in your wiggle dresses and pencil skirts!

P.S. This was NOT a paid advertisement by Rago. I am just THAT passionate about this particular item πŸ™‚
