A Close Runner Up to the Rago 1294 Girdle

I am thrilled to share that Rago has NOT let us down once again! We all know how EPIC the 1294 open bottom girdle is for us vintage lovers but sometimes we need something a little more “simple” while still doing the job right. Thankfully Orchard Corset has one of the best selections of Rago products with fabulous sales for us bargain shoppers.

May I introduce to you…the Rago 1357 Lacette Open Bottom Girdle! Available in pink & black, red & black, solid white and solid black – MSRP $45USD

If you already own other Rago girdles, you should definitely stick to the same sizing with the 1357. Rago suggests ordering up if you have more than 10 inches difference between your waist and hip measurements, in this case like me. I wear a large in Rago girdles, my waist is 29, hips 41. The 1357 girdle measures 13 inches in length and sits on your natural waist line. Personally I adjusted it a few times to find the right placement according to my shape. It features six metal garter tabs with a rather rigid reinforced tummy panel for ultimate smoothing.

Since this girdle is sans zipper, it requires some shimmying and wiggling like the Rago bodybriefers. If you are looking for tummy control, this is hands down the best girdle I have tried that gives the most control without sacrificing comfort. I would even venture to say it provides firmer tummy support than the Rago 1294 girdle. The inner bands smooth out your stomach and bum wonderfully while the lace jacquard fabric holds you in firmly all over.

No shapewear is flawless in one way or another but this one is pretty darn close like the 1294 girdle. The one thing I noticed was the upper bands gives a slight muffin top when sitting since it is so firm and my stomach is far from that. (Let’s be honest here, I would not be wearing shapewear otherwise) It was pretty simple to adjust the band to eliminate the top bulging for the most part, you will need to play around a little to find the right placement as I mentioned earlier. It was amazing to see how flat my tummy was and the amazing smoothing power in the bum area too.

It was time to test the 1357 girdle under some wiggle dresses to see if it looked nearly as good as I was seeing sans clothing. Here is a sampling of test subjects, what do you think? I was pleasantly surprised on how incredible it looked in a variety of styles and fabrics. I would be lying if I did not say I found myself making little adjustments based on the particular garment to ensure an all over smooth silhouette.

The Rago 1357 girdle gets a BIG thumbs up from Pin Up Persuasion, a very close runner up to the Rago 1294 girdle! The Orchard Corset Waspie Contest Winner is…

Thank you to all the lovely ladies that submitted an entry for the Orchard Corset Waspie Contest! It was so very difficult to only pick one winner with so many fabulous submissions.

Drumroll please…

Krysten Smietana!!!

You would like to know where I would wear my Waspie Corset from Orchard Corset? SILLY QUESTION! EVERY-FREAKING-WHERE! Ask an obvious question, get an obvious answer I usually feel.

Seriously, though, my first thought is that a Waspie Corset would look great over my Pinup Couture Doris top to give my figure that extra va-va-voom! Either with one of my full circle swing skirts or even just a pair of jeans to blend my love of the vintage look with my love of cute casual modern pieces. I also think a Waspie Corset would look fabulous over my Heart Breaker Beverly dress as an extra bit of flair or under just to give my shape a boost.

I would also wear my new Waspie Corset as part of my garb for the Ren Faire (Casta Dive Corsets, EAT YOUR HEART OUT! The pieces at Orchard Corset are just as beautiful and well-made AND more affordable priced). A beautiful Waspie Corset over a peasant blouse and a large full skirt? Ren Faire perfection! With just a quick thought I can already imagine soo many ways I can mix and match my grab pieces and come up with great looks incorporating a new Waspie from Orchard Corset. I can see me having a glass of wine and listening to the Sultry Sirens and other performers feeling absolutely beautiful in my new Waspie.

Reading about the contest, so many images and ideas immediately popped into my head as to how I could wear a new Waspie Corset. Dressed up, going to dinner with my boy or to Atlantic City with my girls. Dressed down running errands or grabbing lunch with my mom. Heck, I would even wear my Waspie Corset under my chef whites for work, just because I could! Though, maybe not since it freaks the boys out enough when I come into the restaurant looking like a girl as it is… Maybe you should have asked where I wouldn’t wear my Waspie Corset. Though, each time I think of an answer to that question, I think another minute than go ‘Nah! I could totally wear it there!’ or ‘No way! It would look gorgeous with that!’.

Now my wardrobe seems so lacking without a new Waspie Corset from Orchard Corset! Thanks for this opportunity to win one! Good luck to me and everyone else, as well. I know any of us will love and look stunning in our new Waspie!

Sinful Sparkle

Among many sinful pleasures, being a hardcore handbag addict is nothing that I am ashamed of. Honestly, owning a Coach or Gucci designer bag is of no interest to me because I crave handbags that are bold in color and going to make a statement. More importantly, not going to cost a small fortune!

Have you ever put on that perfect vintage inspired outfit only to discover you have no handbag to match? Insert “this girl” here!  You read right…with my extensive retro wardrobe, I had absolutely no handbags to compliment them. Why didn’t I own any fabulous retro handbags? The ladies in the pinup community were raving about Lux De Ville and from there I became infatuated with their entire line of sparkly handbags.

Looking for a basic handbag staple, I chose the Lux De Ville High Seas Tiny Tote in black & white. Do not let the name fool you, it is not tiny at all. On the contrary, this handbag measures 13 inches long, 9 inches high and 3 inches wide. The interior lining is a high quality leopard print satin like material featuring a zipper pocket for your beauty necessities. The chain link shoulder strap is the perfect length with a convenient magnet flap closure.

The cute little nautical anchor charms are removable in case they make a little too much noise for your liking and prefer hanging them from your review mirror. The best feature hands down is the pearl white quilted vinyl complimented by the shiny black. It is so fabulous in person! A note of caution, the metal bullet feet are quite sharp and will scratch delicate surfaces so be sure not to place it on leather seats or wood floors. The LDV High Seas Tiny Tote is also available in red, blue and solid black.

While attending my first Viva Rockabilly Weekender I decided to invest in a second LDV handbag. They were definitely a hot ticket item being sold at several vendors during the event. Being a die hard bargain shopper, it was a wonderful bonus to snag a LDV purse at 20% Off from Sourpuss. It was a toss up between the Sin City Kiss Lock and the Atomic Tote in blue sparkle but the Sin City won by a long shot with the fiancee.

This piece is the sparkle of any girls’ eye! I have never received so many compliments from complete strangers, all asking where I purchased this beauty from. Normally I personally do not like this particular type of shoulder strap due to the short length but the Sin City is an exception due to it’s wonderful comfort. There is plenty of space to stash a million goodies with the convenient kiss lock snap closure. The interior is lined with the famous LDV satin leopard featuring their classic logo on the exterior and interior. The cute silver dice are a perfect compliment to the design. Once again, beware of the metal bullet feet on any delicate surfaces. The Sin City Kiss Lock purse is available in blue sparkle, purple sparkle, white sparkle, red and black.

For those practical ladies like myself, the LDV handbags are perfect for everyday use. They are well constructed, easy to clean and suitable for a busy lifestyle. I have been using my LDV Sin City handbag daily since Viva this past April and it is almost as beautiful as the day it was new. There is slight wear showing on the straps where the rubber trim is pulling away but nothing a little glue can’t fix. Definitely worth every penny and I will continue using it non stop being so practical while making a statement!
