It must have been well over a year that this particular number teased us in the Pinup Girl Clothing “Coming Soon” section and I could never seem to get her off my mind. The Military Pinup Dress has an assertive and polished style that is truly one of a kind. Even with all the delays in production of its initial release, it was definitely worth the wait! I snagged this beauty from one of my favorite Canadian boutiques, Rowena(Retroglam.com).
Available in sizes XS to 2X in Olive Green & Black – MSRP $104USD
Thanks to PUG’s trusted individual size charts, it was easy to determine the Medium would be an ideal fit with measurements 36-28-40 (note when I ordered it I was 36-29-42). The Military Pinup Dress is made from the most incredible stretch bengaline to date; it’s much thicker than the previous PUG bengaline I find. The weight of the fabric is definitely more forgiving over your trouble areas and ultra stretchy. Keep in mind the constructed bust is designed for the smaller busts since the underseam will run up higher on larger bust sizes (At a 34DD, there was plenty of room and no trouble with the underseam riding up). That’s a lot of bust talk in one sentence. Lol. The Military Pinup Dress features a beautiful kick pleat and contrasting red trim and belt. One area of concern to note, if you have larger arms you may find the red trim around the sleeves a bit snug as it has zero stretch allowance. A simple solution would be to have a tailor insert a small slit in the underarm section so it won’t be visible or alter the overall design.
This polished beauty is perfect to wear to the office and transition to a night on the town. I am a sucker for retro dresses with kickpleats, they are simply timeless and so classy! The bengaline is curve hugging and helps create the illusion of a hourglass silhouette. This number is so exquisitely constructed, it sucks you in wonderfully and accents you in the right places. I paired it with the Rago 6201 Shorts for a little extra help in that department; the Rago 1294 Girdle would be perfect equivalent as well. Surprisingly the length looked splendid a couple inches below the knee (5ft 4inches tall). As you can see on PUG’s site, the Military Pinup Dress is designed to fall a bit higher on the knee. Everyone has their preferences; I am partial to showing less leg as they are not one of my favorite features.
There are no shortages of excellent accessories from PUG to pair with the Military Pinup Dress. Sadly I don’t own shoes in the right shade of red so a simple black pump was my second choice. Check out the PUG Cherry Aeroplane Bag and Lolita Pumps to create the most incredibly decked out ensemble from head to toe!
Sometimes delays in production lead to disappointment with all the build of anticipation but this was surely not the case with the Military Pinup Dress. Definitely one of the more understated PUG Designs that needs to be recognized for it’s gloriousness! I was so happy to hear this was the next review you wanted to read and truly hope it inspires you to consider one for yourself.
