We All Love Cherry Dollface

Recently, you the readers were asked who you would love to see interviewed on Pin Up Persuasion and the overwhelming response was the lovely Cherry Dollface! Many of you may know Cherry from her incredibly informative YouTube Pin Up tutorials. It is with great pleasure we have this opportunity to get to know a little bit more about the gal behind the camera…

-Tell us a about the gal “Cherry Dollface”, what do you enjoy outside of your work…

  • Work takes up so much of my time! But my work is also my hobby so it goes hand in hand. I love doing hair! I also love spending time with my new husband. We have a pretty mellow life. We love movies and making dinner and going for walks and visiting museums. I am a pretty normal gal.
– When did “Cherry Dollface” begin, how did it come to be?
  • In 2004 I was at a car show and a photographer snapped a photo of me that later ended up on the cover of a magazine. From there it just kind of took off!
– What is the meaning behind the name Cherry Dollface?
  • My real name is Cherokee so Cherry was a nickname growing up. And my email forever was CherryDollface– so it just kind of stuck.
– What/who inspires you as an artist/model?
  • I find inspiration everywhere. But mostly what inspires me is happiness. I love feeling whole and happy when I go to sleep at night so I am always searching for the things in my life that make me feel that way. I love when I get emails and messages from people saying that my videos have somehow changed or improved their lives. That gives me motivation to keep going on the days when things get tough.
– When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? Which one(s) is(are) your favorite?
  • I was 19 and I got the cherries on my chest. And it is hard to pick a favorite but right now it is my back piece because it took so long and was so painful and I am just glad it is done!
– Have you always loved the pinup/rockabilly lifestyle? When did you start embracing your love of the culture?
  • When I was 14 I learned how to swing dance and that started my obsession with vintage culture.

– If you could meet anyone living or deceased, who would it be and why?

  • I would meet Homer Simpson and share a donut and a mug of Duff beer.
– What vintage look would you like to see make a comeback with women today?

  • I think a lot of vintage looks are already making a comeback. But I would love to see modesty come back. The trend of butt cheeks hanging out all over the place is appalling.
– Have you taken any formal beauty or hair stylist training?
  • Nope! Self taught. 🙂
– Did you ever imagine that Cherry Dollface would become what it has today?
  • Absolutely not. It started as a fun hobby when I was in college working on a business degree. But now that degree has helped me turn my hobby into my career. I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to live the life that I do.
– Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • Perhaps pregnant! Oh man I am going to look ridiculous. Ha! I hope that in 5 years I am dominating the world and living a happy life with my husband and loved ones
– Do you have any new and exciting projects coming up that you can share?
  • I just designed the “Cherry Dollface” dress with Steady Clothing- it should be available by the end of the year. I am also working on doing a tour of my pinup hair and makeup classes next year. So far I am doing the mid west but I am open to other cities that want to sponsor me. And I have a really big announcement coming at the end of the year but I can’t talk about it yet!
– As a role model for women and girls around the world, what would like to share with them?
  • Just be yourself. Don’t cave to the pressures of what society tells you is beautiful or “normal.” It’s ok to feel a bit weird and out of place, especially when you are a teenager. But the more true to yourself you stay when you are young, the happier you will be as you get older.

Now let’s go with some randoms questions totally not related to switch things up…

– If you could only choose one species to save on Noah’s Ark…what would it be?
  • Koala bears. They’re so darn cute!
– Would you rather trade some intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence?
  • Looks for intelligence for sure. There is nothing less attractive than an airhead.
– What is the most unusual conversation you’ve ever had?
  • Oh man– I don’t think I can answer this one without incriminating people. My two best friends are the biggest weirdos I know, so we have lots of really random all-over-the-map conversations.
– If snakes could talk, what would they say?
  • More mice.
– What is your biggest pet peeve (what do would wish you could do to retaliate)?
  • CALIFORNIA DRIVERS!!! I wish I could teach them all how to merge. Zipper method, people!
– If you could select one person to give a million dollars but it couldn’t be someone you know…who would you choose?
  • I would go into a fire station and randomly pick a fireman. Those guys deserve it.
– Who would be more beneficial during a Zombie apocalypse – Batman or Superman? Why?
  • I have always had an insane crush on Batman, but I think Superman would take the cake. He can fly!
– If you were a vintage car, what would you be and why?
  • A 1953 Buick Skylark. Convertible. Because I look good all sparkly and topless. 🙂
– What is your favorite Barry Manilow song?
  • Mandy? Is that Barry Manilow? I’ll go with that one.

A very big thank you to Cherry Dollface for everything & I hope you all enjoyed getting to know her as much as I did! xo

A Field Of Mesmerizing Poppies

Often times it is pure luck when you find a particular dress you have been lusting after on sale at an incredible price. When Bernie Dexter released sneak peaks of her upcoming designs featuring a vibrant orange poppy print, I was mesmerized. By pure chance, I came across the Frenchie Halter Dress in Orange Poppy Print on clearance at Modcloth for an incredible steal of $45.99! Some of you may recall, I posted the sale on Facebook for all to snag one as well.

Available in sizes XS-2X in a variety of prints ~ MSRP $156USD

BDFrenchie4With only one other Bernie Dexter in my closet, I decided to follow the size chart and order a size Large since my measurements at the time were 36-29-42. The moment the Frenchie Dress arrived, I was absolutely infatuated with the stunning bold poppy print and orange is my favorite colours of all time. Being in between sizes on the chart, I found the Frenchie to fit a bit loose in the bust and waist. The gathered shelf bust provides modest coverage and suitable for a average to smaller bust sizes The Frenchie features a less full skirt, falling just below the knee. With my waist now down to 28″, I had to get bust and waist taken in considerably but it was so worth it! Nothing feels better than a dress that fits you like a glove.

BDFrenchieWhat makes Bernie’s designs so unique is her use of bold patterns and colours different from anything else on the market. Although I tend to shy away from bold prints, hers are always classic and not overpowering. The swing dresses are often made from 100% cotton and so comfortable for every day wear. They are highly sought after and eventually become a sort of collectors item once they are discontinued. Bernie herself sells a lot of her designs on Ebay once they no longer available in retailers.

BDFrenchie3The Frenchie is wonderful for just about any outing: I pair mine with a black cardigan or shrug for work and black patent leather round toe pumps. It can be dressed up or down depending on the look you choose. Since the orange is perfect for fall, now will be a ideal time to get the most wear before the cold winter months roll in. I received many compliments on this beauty while on our wedding trip in the Bahamas this past May.

BDFrenchie2Although the Frenchie Dress in Orange Poppy is now discontinued, you can find them on clearance at various online retailers. If you love the cut, make sure to check out Bernie’s new releases as the Frenchie is one of her design staples.

Everything’s Coming Up Roses – For Me

There’s no denying it, I have a huge weakness for Vintage Roses whether on clothing, bedding or even the inspiration for my next tattoo. They are better known as English Roses or Cabbage Roses, both featuring stunning large blooms in soft pastel colored hues. As soon as I laid eyes on the Vivien of Holloway 50’s Halterneck Floral Dress in Cream Tea Rose I was in love! Sadly at the time my size was out of stock but I anxiously stalked their site waiting for it to return. Needless to say, it landed in my cart the moment they were restocked.

Available in sizes UK10-UK24 in a variety of colours & prints ~ MSRP £79

The 50s Halterneck Dress was my very first order from VOH, so I had to do some homework to know how their sizing ran in comparison to their charts. Originally when I was looking to purchase, my measurements were 36-29-42; I was a little worried the size UK14 (b36-w28) would be too snug in the waist. A few of my trusted vintage gal friend’s said they found the waist to be on the generous side and didn’t need to size up. Well I took the plunge and ordered the 50’s Halterneck Dress in a size UK14 hoping for the best. Nervous when it arrived, I tried it on only to find the waist was quite tight even after losing weight and now having a 28″ waist. I would highly recommend ordering up if you are in between the chart measurements as there is little to no stretch in the floral cotton fabric. The 50s Halterneck Dress features well constructed boned bodice with a soft sweetheart neckline with gathers, perfect for women of all bust sizes. The wide halter strap is not adjustable and may require minor alterations depending on your torso length. That being said, I had to alter the strap as it was gaping at the sides and base of my neck since I have a short torso with narrow shoulders. The most incredible feature is the traditional vintage full circle skirt, perfect to pair with the fullest petticoats. At 5′-4″ tall, the skirt falls a few inches below the knee.

VOHCircle2Since this was my very first experience with built in boning, I was a little weary of the fit initially. It was a little tricky to find the right strapless bra to match the natural shape of the design (a soft bullet style is better than the round seamless cups) but once I did, it looked perfect. The matching burgundy elastic belt is a little big and I could have easily sized down to a small for a more cinching effect. Originally I had ordered the 50s Halterneck Dress for our wedding reception as it was the perfect excuse to buy such a breathtaking dress and this also helped convince my hubby-to-be that I had to have it. Although I ended up wearing a more traditional wedding dress, I was so happy that I took a chance placing an order with VOH. Their service was impeccable and they even managed to locate the matching belt in my size that was out of stock on their website. My order arrived all the way from the UK in less than two weeks and thankfully with extra no duty.

VOHCircle3The 50s Halterneck Dress is perfect for almost any occasion or setting. Add a little cardigan or bolero to wear it to an afternoon gathering or in my case, to the office. If you choose to pair it with one of your own belts, make sure pick a wide style in a contrasting color to accentuate your waist. The circle skirt looks amazing with any volume of petticoat, seen here with the Hell Bunny 25″ in white. It looks darling with a pair of Mary-Janes or comfy ballet flats and a classic pearl necklace.

VOHCircleI am blown away at the quality and style from Vivien of Holloway and will surely become a repeat customer in the future. That paired with excellent customer service, you cannot go wrong! Now I have my eye on the Grace Circle Dress possibly in a beautiful emerald green…
