Without Risk There is No Reward

Today’s post is going to be a bit different from the rest as I wanted to take the time to share with all of you how Pin Up Persuasion came to be. In a few short months, it will be two years since I began the greatest adventure of my life and I haven’t looked back! There was never a time that I could have imagined how this little labour of love could have flourished to what it has today. From day one I chose to start blogging in order to help others and that has remained the core of what Pin Up Persuasion is about.

November 2011

Believe it or not, Pin Up Persuasion began long before the blog launched. Going back a few years now, after placing my first order with PUG I became truly passionate about my love of pinup fashion. I enjoyed being active with fellow fans on PUG’s fanpage and offered assistance wherever possible. Soon I had random fans messaging me for fit advice and recommendations based on the items I had purchased myself. The most rewarding comments came from ladies who said they were hesitant to take the plunge for fear it wouldn’t suit them until they saw the photos I shared wearing my PUG clothes. I was an average gal that inspired them to rock the look they coveted so much! How could this not make me giddy? I simply liked knowing they would not regret their decision one bit. From there, a group of us ladies became friends and wanted a place where we could not only discuss one brand but all the pinup styles that we loved so much while providing honest feedback to one another. With the help of some amazing gals, we formed Pin Up Persuasion; a private group created for open discussion about our passion of the pinup lifestyle. These ladies are who inspired me to begin blogging as they encouraged me to help others alike on a much larger scale.

I was terrified and clueless on where to begin. Until that very moment, I had never really read a “blog” and knew absolutely nothing about starting one of my own. If I was going to do this, I was going to do it right! Quickly I seeked out fellow bloggers that could provide important information on how they got started and if this was something I could do. To this day, I give sole credit to my fairy blog mother Georgina from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust for giving me the courage to take the plunge. Her words of wisdom “Just do it!” was what I needed to hear and I haven’t looked back! It was a crap shoot learning the in’s and out’s of WordPress but I think I made out quite well being self taught. The toughest part was writing the “About me” page as I was terrified no one would even care about what I had to say. Simply put, I am no model nor do I inspire to be; I’m an average gal sharing her passion for pinup in order to help others alike.

August 2012

With the support of my fiance (now husband) we started taking pictures and haven’t stopped. Don’t be fooled, I loathed having my photo taken and was utterly terrified of posting them for all to see. Always battling with low self esteem has been a challenge and I was very apprehensive of opening myself up to a world of criticism. These fears quickly vanished when I received such positive feedback from the few readers I had and it only encouraged me to keep going. As you can see in my early review photos, I had zero hair & makeup skills and began learning along the way. Slowly the Pin Up Persuasion fan base grew and grew…even my own spouse could not believe how much it flourished. Having his support means more than words can express and he too enjoys being a part of the team. Yes, he is the camera man behind all the review photos you see…even giving me new posing tips after looking through my pinup magazines. lol

The blog has allowed me to discover some truly amazing brands, retailers and most importantly, make some incredible friendships. This is not a job for me, it has and will always be a labour of love. I have a regular 9/5 job working in an office where I’m fortunate enough to wear the clothing I love so much and funds my obsession. Many of you don’t know, but more than 95% of the clothing reviewed are my own purchases and not gifted items. For the small percentage that are gifted, I will not provide a favorable critique if it’s not something I personal love. Blogging is a lot of work and I do not shy away from generous offers to review products since often times they are items I get to select myself. I am truly grateful to the sponsors that regard the integrity that I insist on maintaining for my readers. Even if I don’t like something, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a good fit for someone else. Often times I hear from my readers saying they have similar body types or measurements, so if they think it looks good on me they know it will work for them.

I love hearing from my readers! If you ever have questions about an item reviewed or needs sizing advice before making a purchase, please feel free to message me. I’m here to help, this is why I do what I do. One of the great perks about blogging is throwing incredible giveaways for my readers. Yes, I’m often jealous of the amazing prizes and wish I could enter myself. Make sure to spread the word with your friends and family as we definitely want to have many more in the future. If you’re starting a new business and would like to be featured on the blog, do not be shy to contact me. I always welcome guest posts with open arms, you don’t have to be an experienced blogger or expert by any means.

July 2013

Somewhere along the way I finally overcame my lifelong struggle with self esteem issues and have you all to thank. Pin Up Persuasion has been a journey of self discovery and have found a personal self confidence never felt before. I no longer fear putting myself out there and actually do it with pride. Sharing my story about my personal struggle with weight issues was a real eye opener as I was overwhelmed with love and support from all of you. Blogging has been a major source of motivation for me and I could not have come this far without it.

September 2013

Well I think that’s enough rambling about how Pin Up Persuasion came to be. I can say from the bottom of my heart, it’s the best decision I ever made and cannot say thank you enough to everyone who made this all possible. You the readers are why I choose to do this and I want to thank each and everyone of you.

  1. Thanks so much for taking the time to post and put yourself out there! We are a similar size so im always giddy to see you look so gorgeous in these outfits bc it gives me hope i can look half as good as you! You rock!

  2. I’ve only recently found your blog, but must say that it’s heartening to see how you’ve progressed in your “hair skills”; not to mention that it’s great you started your blog and are now quite popular! Both are things which fill me with hope!

  3. I am so grateful to you and your blog. I found you by accident when I was googling reviews for Heartbreaker. While I am taller than you I also have narrow shoulders and wide hips and so your advice is always so welcome. Before you lost weight I could always -pretty much- just go one size up and be right. Now it is a bit harder but I am pleased you are feeling better being a bit slimmer so I can cope. You do really have a talent for this and could consider using these skills more professionally if you ever wanted to give up your day job.
