Welcome back Pin Up Persuasion readers! January not only marks the start of a new year, it is also the 2nd Anniversary for Pin Up Persuasion. Time sure does fly by, it only seemed liked yesterday that I took the plunge into the unknown world of blogging. I honestly wondered if anyone would even read what I wrote but I didn’t let that stop me from sharing what I am most passionate about. To this day, I cannot believe what Pin Up Persuasion has become and you, the readers have made this all possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am forever grateful for your continued support in this endeavor of love.
In the past week, readers were asked which style they wanted to see reviewed next and the winner was the Collectif Simone Houndstooth Doll Dress. If this was not your top choice, don’t fret…the others will also be featured in the weeks to come. It is no lie when I say, I chased after the Simone Doll Dress in Navy Houndstooth for months…it was sold out from release since the fabric was being held up by the supplier. One lucky day, it finally appeared and I made my purchase instantly.
Available in sizes UK6-UK22 in a variety of colours ~ MSRP £65
Since the Simone Doll Dress was purchased last winter (pre-weight loss), I ordered my usual size UK12 (Medium) when my waist was 29″ and bust 36″. If I were to order it today, I would easily fit in a UK10 (Small) now that my waist measures 28″. After months of waiting, I was beyond excited when the Simone finally arrived. It was every bit as beautiful as seen modeled on the website. The navy houndstooth is rich and compliments the style wonderfully. The Simone Doll definitely takes inspiration from Mad Men styling with the full swing skirt and modest squared neck line complimented by the large round buttons detail. The cap sleeves provide ample room for the upper arms and are very flattering as well. The matching belt is ideal to cinch the waist and give the illusion of a hourglass figure. It came as no surprise the Simone required alterations in the shoulders due to my short torso. My seamstress made a small change to the sleeves by creating a slight gathered pleat and I love it even more. Sometimes she has to get creative to ensure the integrity of the overall design is not compromised.
The Simone Doll Dress is ideal for those cold Fall and Winter month. It is made from a thick cotton houndstooth material with ample weight to keep you warm. This is one of my go to dresses for work when I want to look classic but be ultra comfortable at the same time. There’s no need for shapewear and you can pair it with your favorite bra, definitely win/win on both accounts. Although the Medium is a little too big in the waist now, the matching belt makes it super easy to cinch the excess fabric so I can still wear it comfortably.
Accessorizing the Simone is rather simple with it’s classic style. Pair it with a single strand pearl necklace and favorite round toe pumps to go from day to evening with no fuss. Although the Simone features a full swing skirt, I would not recommend pairing it with a petticoats. The skirt drapes beautifully with the weight of the fabric and does not require anything more.
I truly hope Collectif brings the Simone Doll out in more fabrics for next Fall/Winter as I’d really love to own another. For those of you more keen on form fitting dresses over a swing skirt, the Simone is available in a wiggle dress as well.
