With spring on everyone’s minds after one of the coldest and longest winters in decades, I can’t help but feature reviews that get us in the mood for dress season again. I have oodles of outfits in my closet just waiting eagerly to be worn; I cannot wait to finally get out of these dreaded winter coats and boots after what seems like an eternity. Recently I had the opportunity to snag the Pinup Girl Clothing’s Lana Cocktail Dress in Rose Garden Canvas for a fraction of the cost from a Facebook Swap & Sell Group.
Available in sizes XS-2X in a variety of colorways & prints ~ MSRP $122USD
One of the great features with PUG clothing is their garment specific size charts; it takes a lot of the guess work out of buying the right size. I jumped at the chance when the size Small came up on the swap page as my current measurements (36-27-40) fell right in line according to the chart. When the Lana arrived, I was thrilled that it fit perfectly and required no alterations whatsoever. It is fitted in the bust and waist, which is absolutely how I prefer my clothes to feel. The Lana is one of the more simplistic designs but do not let that fool you. The construction is figure flattering and accentuates all the right places. With the squared neckline and wide straps, you can certainly wear your favorite undergarments and skip the dreaded strapless bras. The Lana Rose Garden is made from a fabulous canvas material that really makes the floral print pop. It also features a fun and flirty full skirt that compliments the design perfectly. At 5’-4”, the skirt falls just at the knees.
Almost every one of us ladies who has worn a vintage reproduction dress or skirt has been caught in a plight on a windy day. I am referring to the dreaded incident when strangers catch a glimpse when our skirts go flying up to show more than we care to. The heavy canvas of the Lana dress is reassuring to stay in place in comparison to more commonly used lightweight cottons. Although some may think this material may be uncomfortable or stiff, I find it quite the opposite. The canvas holds you in firmly and is very supple for all day wear. With its classic silhouette, the Lana is sure to be flattering for all shapes and sizes. In all honesty, I never really gave the Rose Garden print much consideration when it was released but developed a new found admiration when it came along on the swap page. I cannot believe this dress wasn’t an instant fan favorite as the floral print is so incredibly lovely in person, the photos simply do not do it justice.
The Lana is a perfect dress to take your look from day to evening. For day, simply pair it with a cardigan, some cute chunky jewelry and ballet flats. This ensemble would be ideal to run errands, for work or just an afternoon with girlfriends. To transition to evening, simply slip into a pair of high heels and you’re all set. Since full skirt has a lovely fullness from the canvas and gathers, there is no need to add a petticoat.
I am daydreaming of green grass with sunshine to arrive sooner rather than later to finally give Lana her debut that she deserves. She will surely become a wardrobe staple not only for work but daily wear with her versatile nature. Hopefully we’ll see even more colorways being released as I know this is a go to dress for many ladies.
