Fabulous Frocks Know No Borders

Lately I find myself venturing into new territory and branching out into unfamiliar brands for the sake of diversifying my wardrobe. The luxury of online shopping is that you aren’t limited to what is available in your own backyard; the world is your shopping mecca! For quite some time I had my eye on frocks by Vanity Project by Limb (also known as Limb Clothing) but found they were only available mainly in Europe. When Rockabilly Pinup introduced lower International shipping rates, I knew it was the perfect time to order the Black Oriental Cherry Blossom Betty F Day Dress by Limb.

Available in sizes UK8-22 in a variety of prints ~ MSRP £99

IMG_2896Like all new brands, Limb Clothing was unknown to me in regards to their sizing accuracy therefore I had no choice but to entrust their size guide. Since I was in between the size UK10 and UK12, I went with the larger because the fabric was non-stretch cotton. When the Betty F Day Dress arrived, it was immediately clear that I should not have sized up as it fit true to size (fitting up to a 29” waist) and I was literally swimming in it. (The downside of losing a significant amount of weight is adjusting to a new size and being confident that the smaller sizes will actually be best.) I contacted Rockabilly Pinup to set up an exchange for the UK10 which was super easy and arrived very quickly. As soon as tried the replacement, I knew the sizing was just right. The overall fit was flawless and required no alterations. Even though my bust is 1” larger than the size chart measurement, there is plenty of room and there’s no excessive cleavage. The Betty F Day Dress features a crossover sweetheart neckline, ¾ length sleeves, a deep pleated skirt that flares at the knee and handy sash tie at the waist. The sash tie is wonderful to cinch your waist comfortably and adds a little extra detail when tied in a bow off to the side. At 5’-4” tall, the skirt falls just at the knees.

IMG_2909 IMG_2904The Betty F Day Dress remains true to its name, seeing as it is a fabulous dress for daytime. With the ¾ sleeves, it is conservative for any occasion and super quick to throw on for those times you are in a rush to get out the door. What makes Limb Clothing stand out from the rest, is the plethora of unique prints and vibrant colourways. The Black Oriental Cherry Blossom is striking but truly classic, and also available in red or green. The overall quality is great and reflective of the higher price point. If you happen to prefer wiggles dresses, this same style is available in the Betty P Fitted Dress. Limb Clothing seems to keep the same designs season after season but adds fabulous new fabrics and prints to their collection.

IMG_2903Already I find myself wearing the Betty F Day Dress as a personal staple at work because it is super comfortable for all day wear. Accessorizing is super quick and easy; I chose to pair it with my t-strap heels by Chelsea Crew and a lovely dahlia hair flower by Vintage Box 1947. With the skirt flaring out at the knees, it is best not to add a petticoat.

IMG_2918With numerous styles to choose from and endless choices of prints, there is something to appeal to everyone. Limb Clothing has quickly become a brand to watch; luckily crossing over to this side of the pond to make it easier for those who shy away from ordering overseas. That being said, Rockabilly Pinup offers great customer service and quick, affordable International shipping that I can recommend personally. Plus there’s a 10% off code (PP2012) available exclusively to Pin Up Persuasion readers.

Dearest Ophelia ~ Beauty, Class & Elegance

It is no secret that I spend hours and hours on the internet every day searching for new finds and fabulous pieces to blog about for my readers. Sometimes I stumble on things out of sheer luck but from there I must do my homework before even considering featuring them on Pin Up Persuasion. It is not very often that a particular clothing brand literally comes out of nowhere and takes the vintage reproduction industry by storm. Nevertheless, this is how I would describe in what manner Lindy Bop has hit the mainstream in recent months with the breathtaking addition of the stunning Ophelia Dress! Ladies have been eagerly snatching up the Turquoise Ophelia every time it is restocked and is now available in a multitude of colours and prints. No surprise, I couldn’t resist getting the Ophelia Floral Spring Garden Party Picnic Dress in both Turquoise and Black & Pink.

Available in sizes UK8-22 in a variety of prints & colours ~ MSRP £34.99

IMG_2855 IMG_2882Since several lovely ladies that I know had already purchased the Ophelia, I decided to ask for their input on the sizing in comparison to the Lindy Bop size charts. The general consensus was that the Ophelia was generously cut and it was best to go by my smallest measurement. I ordered a size UK10 in both colourways based on my current measurements (bust 36”, waist 27”). When my Ophelias arrived, I was seriously in awe at the magnificent floral prints and opulent colour combinations. I concur that the sizing is quite generous in the waist but not so much in the bust. With my bust exceeding the UK10 sizing by 2”, there is no way I could have sized down any further. I simply added a thin belt to cinch the small amount excess fabric as seen in the photos. On a quick note, I did notice the Turquoise fit a little more snuggly in the bust and waist in comparison to the Black & Pink, probably due to different production batches but the difference is minimal. The Ophelia features a contrasting rushed sweetheart neckline complimented by the folded scoop bust detail, wide straps (which will allow you to wear your favorite bra) and a fabulous full swing skirt. The rich bold fabric is actually a thick canvas and creates an incredible structure for the design. At 5’-4”, the skirt falls just below the knees.

IMG_2870 IMG_2884To say I adore the Ophelia is no exaggeration; she is the epitome of elegance. The richness of the bold prints and unique design elements, make it truly to die for! In addition to its beauty, the Ophelia is functional and comfortable for every day wear. The canvas fabric is very forgiving and holds you in where you may need a little extra help. To my surprise, the affordable price point does not hinder in the quality in construction by any means.

IMG_2853 IMG_2886Lindy Bop also has a small range of petticoats (£21.99), as seen in the review photos. Note I had to roll the waistband a few times in order for the length to match that of the Ophelia skirt since the petticoats are all 26” long. Although I am not overly keen on super full petticoats, I find this look suits the Ophelia wonderfully.

IMG_2863 IMG_2876One of the best things about the Ophelia is that you can wear it to any occasion or simply for a trip to the grocery store. I know mine will be a workplace staple and worn every chance I get. When it comes to accessorizing, the options are endless. I chose to pair the Turquoise with a burgundy slide belt, red dahlia hair flower from Vintage Box 1947 and Miss L Fire Pompeii heels in red. With the Black & Pink Ophelia, I added a black slide belt, yellow rose hair flower from Vintage Box 1947 (can you tell these are my favorites), and black patent t-strap heels by Chelsea Crew. Both Ophelias’ are paired with the Lindy Bop petticoat to add just the right amount of oomph.

IMG_2847 IMG_2890The Ophelia has several fabulous features that make this dress truly unique and has quickly become a staple in many pinup wardrobes. Although I own two already, I can’t help but want more as the floral just pulls at my heart strings like mad. Lindy Bop was not born overnight but they truly took the scene by storm with the addition of the magnificent Ophelia. Be sure to visit their Facebook Fanpage as they are constantly adding new designs and sharing what we can expect to see in future collections.

Spring is in Full Bloom

Spring is finally here & dress season is in full swing! I couldn’t ditch the pants, boots and winter jackets fast enough to begin wearing pretty dresses again. Another aspect that has me overjoyed, outdoor blog photo-shoots! We all know indoor photo-shoots tend to be rather monotonous and lack luster to show off how incredible some of these pieces truly are. With our big Viva trip behind us, it was time to commence showcasing tons of fabulous new finds for all of you. Although many of us are familiar with the household names in vintage reproduction, there are several up and coming brands that deserve their time to shine. Recently I was introduced to a UK brand called Voodoo Vixen, who happens to be making a real splash in the industry. I instantly fell for the Pretty Poppies Flair Dress and matching cardigan, as we all know how my I love floral.

Available in sizes XS-2XL in a variety of colours & prints ~ MSRP £44.99+

IMG_2934Voodoo Vixen is doing it right when it comes to accurate sizing with their clothing. Each individual  item has a custom size chart and not those terrible generic charts that always seem to be inaccurate. Based on my current measurements (36-27-39), I went with a size Medium in both the Pretty Poppies Dress and Cardigan. In hindsight, I should have ordered down in the cardigan since they are made from a super stretchy knit and it would have definitely accommodates my larger bust size. The Pretty Poppies Dress was a great fit overall; it is a bit roomy in the waist but the bust is a perfect fit. Sizing down would have not been an option for this one. The Pretty Poppies Dress features a unique cutout bodice for a delicate decollete detail, contrasting edge pipping, super cute front pockets and a coordinating belt (the belt is a tad too big for me since it’s sized to accommodate a 29″ waist). Due to the size zipper and zero stretch to the cotton material, I highly recommend getting dressed before doing your hair and makeup. This is simply due to the fact it is necessary to go overhead and the neckline opening is rather narrow.  The hemline falls just at the knees at 5ft 4inches tall. The Pretty Poppies Cardigan features lovely embroidered flowers with contrasting cuffs and buttons. Simple, yet elegant to pair with any ensemble.

IMG_2950 IMG_2927Whenever I try a new brand for the first time, I am always skeptical of the quality more than anything else. There are several factors when to determine overall value for you money; fabric, construction, fit, wear-ability, and so on. Bear in mind, Voodoo Vixen falls mid range in price points for vintage reproduction and manufactured in China. That being said, I am very impressed with the overall quality and believe it is definitely worth the investment. The fabric is a quality cotton with vibrant poppy print and super comfortable for every day wear. Although the hemline is a little shorter than I am accustomed to, I think it suits the overall design wonderfully.

IMG_2947 IMG_2931 The Pretty Poppies Dress is perfect for errands or wearing to the office at work and I will surely be wearing the cardigan year round. With such bold contrasting colours, play them up with some fabulous wedges and hair flower. Here I am wearing the Dennise wedges in red from B.A.I.T and triple red hair orchids by Vintage Box 1947. Due to the short hem, wearing a petticoat is not necessary.

IMG_2957 IMG_2928 IMG_2940With my first experience with Voodoo Vixen being a success, I will surely be adding more of their collection to my wardrobe in the future. If floral is not your cup of tea, this particular style comes in a variety of colours and prints as it appears to be one of their signature styles each season. You can purchase directly from Voodoo Vixen on their website or find them at one of your favorite shops like JBR Clothing.
