The Bitter Waters Sweetened

Several months ago, we photographed my collection of vintage inspired swimsuits in hopes to start a mini series showcasing my favorite brands. With summer now in full swing, I better get moving otherwise you will be planning for fall/winter before we know it. A little over years ago, I discovered the delightful Sugar Doll Swim on Etsy and have been a loyal fan ever since. I decided to place an order in time for our first Viva since I had no retro inspired swimwear to wear to the Pool Party. With their incredible mix and match styles, I couldn’t resist getting the Strawberry Dream & Dixie Country Gingham Bikini Top and Paula Classic High Waist Bikini Bottom.

Available in sizes S-XL in a variety of colours & prints ~ MSRP $52-$78

IMG_2468 IMG_2479When I originally purchased my swimsuits from Sugar Doll Swim, my measurements were 36-29-42. Having the option to purchase different sizes in the tops and bottoms is always a blessing when you have a curvy figure and uneven proportions. Based on their size chart, I ordered the bikini tops in a Medium and high waist bikini bottom in a Large. Since Shay was making all her swimsuits to order at that time, it took a few weeks for my pieces to be ready but she kept in touch throughout the process. Needless to say, I was so pleased when they arrived as I had been drooling over them for many months before taking the plunge. As soon as I tried on the Paula bottoms, I was over the moon excited since they fit so wonderfully and had such magical powers to slim my curvy bottom. For the first time in my life I felt confident in a bikini bottom, they actually concealed my trouble tummy area and accentuated my shape. When I tried the bikini tops, they fit well but realized I needed some padding to create a rounder shape. Shay was kind enough to send me the inserts and I had my seamstress sew them in place as we were on a time crunch with Viva quickly approaching. Once the cups were added, the bikini tops were now very becoming just like the bottoms.

IMG_2474 IMG_2486What I love most about Sugar Doll Swim is the fact their designs are so versatile with the possibility to mix and match, which allows your dollar to stretch much further. I was able to create two different looks without having to buy two sets of tops and bottoms. As you can see, I chose to also order the Ruby High Waist Bikini Bottoms the following year when we were planning our wedding in the Bahamas. To date, the Sugar Doll Swim High Waist Bikini Bottoms are my ALL TIME FAVORITES among the various vintage reproduction brands I’ve tried. Their slimming powers are something quite magical, I cannot recommend them enough to all of you. Although my current measurements (36-27-39) now place me in a size Medium bottom, the Larges still fit quite well as seen in the photos. The quality and craftsmanship is impeccable, you can swim in the ocean or lounge by the pool with confidence that your suit will hold up.

IMG_2470 IMG_2482The most enjoyable part is the endless combinations to accessorizing your swimsuits. Add a long wrap sarong with your favorite wedges, finished off with a tropical hair flower. I personally love the look of multi-coloured bakelite bracelets for a day of lounging by the pool is on the agenda.

IMG_2469 IMG_2481It’s been two years since I purchased these incredible swimsuits from Sugar Doll Swim and they still look brand new after many wears. The longevity of their designs is what has propelled this one woman company into the mainstream now being carried by PUG and many other well known boutiques. Every year, Sugar Doll Swim creates incredible new designs that still coordinate with previous collections. I have been lusting over the new Blossom White Floral Retro Bikini Top which will go perfectly with my Ruby High Waist Bottoms of course.
