There are moments when we just know something was truly meant to be…there’s no denying the desire in your mind that you have to have it! Seeing as I am a recovering closet hoarder, if I truly want something that badly…I force myself to wait several weeks (or months) before indulging to ensure its love and not just lust. For what seems like forever, I pinned over the jaw dropping Stop Staring Cover Girl in blush floral and anxiously awaited for it to become available at Modern Pinup. From the moment the Stop Staring Spring/Summer 2015 collection sneak previews were released, I knew this was a quintessential for summer.
Available in sizes XS-2X ~ MSRP $158USD
With Stop Staring sizing, I always gauge based on if the material has stretch (bengaline) or not (cotton). In this case, the Cover Girl Dress is made of a cotton/polyester mix therefore I knew it was best to stick with my normal size Medium based on my measurements (bust 36”, waist 27”, hips 38”). If you are unsure, definitely touch base with Rachel at Modern Pinup as she is super helpful with sizing advice when you need it. The Medium fit perfectly, with the right amount of wiggle room to sit comfortably. Although invisible to the naked eye, there is a second layer under the white pleated neckline which I assume is designed as a modesty panel. This under layer did gape on me enough so, that I safety pinned it down in the corners to provide the coverage needed and allowed for the pleating to sit nicely. If you are more well-endowed than me, this likely won’t be an issue. The Cover Girl Dress features a halter neck (expandable elastic) sweetheart neckline with contrasting white dot accent bust detail, underbust pleating, pencil skirt with rear slit and back zipper closure. At 5’-4” tall, the skirt falls a few inches below the knees.
The Cover Girl Dress is truly spectacular with such a soft blush coloured background in combination with the classic rose print. Normally I shy away from pinks altogether but there was something that pulled me in from the moment I saw it. This is definitely a classic style that can be transitioned from day to evening giving more versatility to your look. At first I was worried the non-tie halter strap would be too long for my short torso but with the expandable elastic, the length was impeccable and it was actually very comfortable due to the wider band design. With all wiggle skirts, I achieve the illusion of a flawless silhouette with my trusted Rago Shapewear essentials like the 1294 Open Bottom Girdle. The thickness of the fabric is great for concealing any shapewear; I can attest that no one will know. Since the material is almost 50% cotton, the wiggle skirt will crease when sitting for extended periods of time. It’s nothing major to be quite honest but I do have to iron it with each wear.
Whether you’re attending an afternoon summer gathering or headed on a hot date night, your accessories can be easily transitioned from day to night. By adding a cropped cardigan, the Cover Girl Blush Dress becomes a little more conservative when the occasion calls for it. I really liked playing up the contrasting bust detail by pairing it with these cute white wedges, finished off with some lovely pink rose stud earrings. For a more defined nipped in waist, try adding a skinny belt in white or complimentary pink hues.
There wasn’t a more perfect occasion than our 2 year wedding anniversary to wear the Cover Girl Dress. I felt like a total bombshell that evening and of course very excited for summer that was only a month away at the time. Stop Staring truly created a winning combination with this figure flattering design and exquisite rose floral print.
