When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade!

With summer already coming to an end (heartbreaking), that will not stop this gal from milking every last nice day to wear fabulous dresses before the cold swoops in. After having one of the most beautifully warm summers in years, I found myself gravitating to wearing shorts quite regularly which is almost unheard of. This new found inclination made me realize that I was in desperate need of vintage inspired summer-wears but hesitancy quickly took hold. It is nearly impossible to find any styles that fit an extreme hourglass shape and suitable for a short torso. After giving up on making risky online purchases, I saw a pair of the Pinup Girl Clothing High-Waisted Shorts in Blue Lemonade Print on the PUG Swap & Sell Facebook Page and decided to give them a go since they were at a fraction of the retail price.

Available in sizes XS-2X in blue & pink ~ MSRP $62 (On clearance $32)

IMG_5767One of the things I love most about buying from Pinup Girl Clothing is their non generic size charts. Each item has their very own size chart which makes shopping online must less of a gamble. When I decided to take the plunge with the PUG High-Waisted Shorts, I did so because the size Small measurements coincided with mine (waist 27″, hips 38-39″) and the gal I bought them from helped tremendously by providing the inseam length as well. I held my breath when they arrived and quickly went to try them on. It was a sense of shock and amazement, they actually fit…this was a summer miracle! The PUG High-Waisted shorts feature a high empire waist with slight curve, an elastic ruched back panel, cuffed leg design, and back zipper closure. The elastic panel is what makes these shorts magic for those with a small waist and larger hips. No more baggy waist, the elastic keeps the waist snug but does not restrict your movement or comfort level.

IMG_5759 IMG_5778Pinup Girl Clothing has clearly created a classic summer staple with the High-Waisted Shorts. Although I love fun prints, I normally gravitate towards bottoms in solid colours for versatility and personal comfort. The blue lemonade print is simply adorable and much more charming in person. There are enough colours to pull from that also make them pretty versatile to mix and match with tops already in your closet. Since I am on the higher end of the size small measurements, they are quite fitted throughout and find that the firm waistband does cause a little tummy pooch effect since that is one of my trouble areas. It’s nothing that the right undergarments can’t fix, I would recommend some tummy control panties to smooth and hold.

IMG_5776The great thing about versatile separates, you can mix and match with what is already in your closet. With the busy lemonade print, I wanted to keep the accents simple. I paired them with the PUG Peasant Top in white, vintage yellow beaded necklace and white espadrille sandals. This look is ideal for almost any outing, classic mixed with a little cuteness.

IMG_5762Make sure to grab these while you can, the PUG High-Waited Shorts in blue and pink Lemonade Print are currently on clearance now! I am truly hoping to see this style come back next summer in solid colours and more fun prints. Fabulous summer staples like these don’t come along often enough.

  1. I love this print! These shorts fit you beautifully. I haven’t tried them yet, don’t know if they will work for me because I have a lesser degree of curve (might be baggy at the hips/rear if I get them to fit my waist). But, I did get the Nancy dress in the same colorway in their last Online Yard Sale, such a pretty color combination and print. Enjoy the last warm days, Jessica!
