Swing vs Wiggle: A Battle No More

Among the pinup fashion world, there are two very distinctive categories of dress styles: Swing vs Wiggle. Many of us have our preferential go to for personal comfort but what about the void that exists when a particular design is only available in one or the other? So many times we hear women say “but that would so good in a swing skirt”, or “I would love to see that in a sexy wiggle”, or “I wish it had longer sleeves”. Fortunately for all of us, Pinup Girl Clothing heard the inner desires of their customers and has introduced a whole new collection based on one of their bestselling designs, the Erin! Originally designed as a curve hugging wiggle dress with cap sleeves…the Erin has now been reinvented in a swing skirt and with a variety of sleeves lengths to please us all. Desperate for more dresses suitable for the cooler weather that is now upon us; I jumped at the Erin Swing Dress in Three-Quarter Sleeves in Emerald Green.

Available in sizes XS-4X in a variety of colorways ~ MSRP $108USD

IMG_6496Retailers like Pinup Girl Clothing try to take the guess work out of finding the right size and provide unique sizing charts for each style and colorway. Based on my measurements (bust 36” waist 26/27”), I fell perfectly in line with the size small. If you happen to be in between sizes, there is a generous amount of stretch in the bengaline fabric and I would recommend sizing down if you desire a more snug fit. When the Erin Swing Dress arrived, I was delighted on how well it fit and flattered my body. Those of you that always need a little more room in the sleeves…the Erin sleeves are very generously cut and have loads of stretch as well. I actually found them to be a bit loose on my arms but still super comfortable. The Erin Swing Dress features a fabulous gathered cross over style bust, three-quarter length sleeves, a flattering swing skirt with hidden pockets, a matching grommet belt and back zipper closure. If you happen to size down in the waist, I would caution that the belts are a tad on the small side. At 5’-4” tall, the skirt falls a few inches below the knees.

IMG_6524 IMG_6519As a huge fan of the original Erin, I was beyond thrilled with the release of the new swing skirt with three-quarter sleeves! I find myself constantly gravitating towards swing skirts as they are easy to throw on for work and require no extra undergarments. Made from PUG’s signature stretchy bengaline fabric, the Erin Swing Dress is definitely ideal for the cooler seasons since there is a considerate amount of weight to the garment. The swing skirt drapes beautifully and I really love that the fabric does not crease nearly as much as cotton. For those of you concerned with the deep plunging neckline, I found there to be ample coverage and not nearly as revealing like the original Erin Wiggle. A simple and easy alternative, try adding a little lace camisole in a contrasting colour for extra coverage. The emerald green is an absolutely stunning warm jewel tone, definitely a winner for us redheads.

IMG_6531The Erin Swing Dress is a fabulous staple that can be accessorized to go from day to evening glam. When it comes to my day look at the office, I keep things simple by adding a cute little novelty brooch and a comfy pair of round toe pumps. For evening, I add some dramatic costume jewelry and switch up to some sexy high heel pumps. The Erin Swing Dress is one of those particular designs that I believe look best without a petticoat simply because the bengaline drapes perfectly and has enough structure to stand alone.

IMG_6528 IMG_6506Pinup Girl Clothing has given us so many choices with the newly redesigned Erin Dress, sure to accentuate every body type and shape. Whether you are devoted to wiggle skirts or swing skirts, you may be surprised to find they are both great must-have staples to add in your closet. Even better yet, the Erin Dress is going to make you look fabulous without breaking your wallet since they are all reasonably priced around $100. What better way to start planning your Black Friday shopping by adding the Erin to your PUG wish list?!? 😉

  1. Green definitely pairs well with your red hair, Jessica. Stunning as usual. When PUG announced the new Erin variants, I got so excited, especially for this version! I’ve always loved the original Erin dress but I am unsure of how comfortable I would be wearing wiggles out–the neckline was my favorite part despite how revealing it could be. Since this has a swing skirt and the beautiful neckline, this should be a perfect addition to my wardrobe. At first glance, one might say this is such a simple dress, but I see lots of possibilities, as it looks very versatile to me. This is the reason why I shop PUG–they do take into consideration the needs of their customers and fans.
