A Perfect Courtship

With winter finally coming to an end, the only thing that kept my work wardrobe fun and unique over the long cold months were lovely novelty print cardigans. I have been collecting all different designs over the years from various vintage reproduction brands that we all know and love, as well as finding new brands like Miss Ladybug California. I introduced you all to Miss Ladybug CA a couple weeks ago with their adorable screen printed tee shirts. The cuteness does not stop there, as they also offer a fabulous selection of novelty print cardigans that are perfect to mix and match with your wardrobe. I was immediately smitten with the delightful Dating Deers Cardigan in one of my favorite go-to vintage colours…mustard yellow!

Available in sizes S-3X in Teal, Black, & Mustard ~ MSRP $48USD

IMG_7241Upon reflecting more on the Miss Ladybug CA size charts, I have realized that the chest measurements must be those of the garment un-stretched. I personally prefer my cardigans to be form fitting rather than loose and went with my usual size Small. To my surprise, even with the ample amount of stretch in the knit fabric…the buttons gape quite a bit around my bust. In all honesty, I probably needed a size Medium if I wanted to wear the cardigan buttoned fully but I don’t mind wearing it open with a camisole underneath. With the Dating Deers Cardigan being screen printed, it is definitely best to order a size up if you’re on the busty side to not “pull” or “stretch” the lovely design. The Dating Dress Cardigan features two adorable woodland fawns with cascading flowers, made from a very soft and stretchy knit, with three-quarter sleeves and matching front button closure.

IMG_7214 IMG_7225What I love most about the Miss Ladybug CA cardigans is that they can easily coordinate with your existing wardrobe making them very versatile. Some of you may not know this, but mustard yellow is a staple colour in vintage fashion from the 1950s. I have so many vintage swing skirts and dresses that pair wonderfully with this hue. There is no doubt in my mind that the Dating Deers Cardigan will be well loved and worn over the years as a result. One thing I do wish for longevity reasons, is to see all the Miss Ladybug CA cardigan designs be made using embroidery (some already are) as this is sure to withstand many washes and not crack like the screen printed technique. If you’re looking for something a little less bold, the Dating Deers Cardigans as also comes in a soft light teal and a staple black as well.

IMG_7231When it comes to the Dating Deers Cardigans, I truly believe this is the accent to your ensemble. We always talk about accessorizing but in this case you already have that in hand…so now it’s time to jazz up your look! One thing I quickly released is that I own A LOT of novelty print swing skirts but only a couple solid colours. Needless to say, a red skirt would look phenomenal with the Dating Deers print but that will have to be put on my wishlist for the future. Of course, I could not go wrong with my staple vintage black taffeta circle skirt paired with matching Bakelite bracelets, a wide vinyl black, BAIT wedges in mustard and contrasting red Hell Bunny petticoat for a little extra fullness.

IMG_7245 IMG_7221Not only does Miss Ladybug CA have the most adorable designs but the lady behind it all, Nana is an absolute sweetheart! For us International customers, their shipping is very reasonable and arrives promptly without any large customs fees tacked on. I love following their Instagram to see all the sneak peeks of the new upcoming designs, so definitely make sure to follow them HERE!

  1. Love this! And the bangles are a fabulous touch! Yellow does not flatter me at all, so I simply admire it on others. Cardigans often ‘gape’ on me, even if they’re a loose-ish fit, but I find if I wore a cotton (or other non slippery fabric) cami underneath it helps the cardi stay put. Best for cold days!
