Take Me To Miami

Summertime is so short lived for those of us living far north of the equator that we have to savor each day to wear fabulous frocks. This year we are getting extra spoiled with lots of sunshine and hot temperatures earlier than ever. Of course on those sweltering days we need lightweight clothing to keep us looking stylish and cool. Instinctively I reach for my new Olivia Blue Day Dress from Zoe Vine with a fun 1950’s Miami theme novelty print.

Available in sizes S-XL ~ MSRP £80.00 On Clearance Now for £45.00

IMG_8138 IMG_8152After loving the fit of my first Zoe Vine dress last fall, I felt confident that their size Small would work well again with the Olivia Dress. Although my bust (36”) is larger than the chart, I found there was ample room to avoid sizing up. As luck would have it, the Olivia Dress fit wonderfully from head to toe; I was amazed how it hugged my figure perfectly. The Olivia Dress features a sleeveless boat neck with gathering under the bust, a flattering ruched cummerbund with gathered swing skirt and back invisible zipper closure. The delightful 1950’s Miami print is hand drawn featuring beachgoers, palm trees, pink classic cars and tourists seeing the sights, all set on a striking blue background. At 5’-4” tall, the hemline falls just below the knees.

IMG_8125 OliviaThere was no doubt in my mind that the Olivia Dress was making its debut while vacationing in Minneapolis and a perfect match to feature with ‘Ole Vera the 1948 Buick Super 8. The pleated bodice on the Olivia dress in combination with the cummerbund detail makes this style very slimming and extremely comfortable. I really love the modest neckline as it makes the sleeveless element still very conservative even for the workplace. The subtle novelty print really makes this dress something special but not overpowering to the eye. One thing I did find was that the lightweight cotton fabric skirt was a bit transparent in certain lights therefore I suggest wearing either a simple nude slip or petticoat.

Olivia2 IMG_8145Surprisingly I own little blue in my wardrobe but luckily the Olivia Dress is super easy to accessorize. With such a fun beach theme, I chose to pair it with multi-coloured bangles and brown tooled leather wedges from Remix. Although the Olivia can be worn either with or without, I chose to add a little extra volume with a white petticoat to showcase the fabulous novelty print.

IMG_8150If you smitten as I am with the Olivia Dress, now is the time to scoop one up for a steal on clearance for only £45.00! This limited edition Miami print is sure to delight your summer wardrobe while keeping you cool.

A special thank you to my lovely photographers Lucas Mark and Julie Abnet.

Fanciful Peacock

Novelty prints are the new polka dots in the vintage fashion world these days. The multitude of fun, bold, colourful, and boundless designs have provided us with many choices to showcase our unique personal style. The original vintage counterparts are becoming alarming unaffordable for the budget conscious shopper, but it is with great relief that modern reproduction designers are creating fabulous alternatives for more modest prices. It is no secret that I have a profound adoration for the breathtaking beauty of peacocks and continually seek out new fanciful peacock motifs to add to my collection. As Voodoo Vixen released their new summer collection, I was instantly drawn to the gorgeous turquoise Kate Skirt in peacock print.

Available in sizes S-XL ~ MSRP £32.99

IMG_8046Voodoo Vixen sizing is known to be designed a little more generously in the waist in comparison to the bust area. Thankfully practical separates take some of the guesswork out of having to accommodate our vastly different body proportions. Based on my waist measurement (27″), the size Small would be a spot on and it was. I actually found the waist to be slightly loose, which I actually did not mind at all. A little extra breathing room is great to have since my waist tends to fluctuate up and down regularly. The Kate Skirt features a classic box-pleat flared skirt, with a covered button and back zipper closure. Made from a thick brocade turquoise fabric adorned with striking peacocks accented by pink and red floral print. At 5’4″ tall, the skirt length falls just below the knees.

IMG_8048 IMG_8016Versatile separates like the Kate Skirt are great essentials that can be mixed and matched to create a multitude of combinations to stretch your wardrobe even further. The thick brocade fabric gives the skirt lots of structure with built in volume and extra dimension to the gorgeous novelty print. Surprisingly lightweight and great for everyday wear. An extra bonus is that the fabric doesn’t wrinkle nearly like cotton. The elegant peacocks are not overpowering yet pop beautifully against the vibrant turquoise brocade. I love that there are so many bright colours in the novelty print, making this skirt easy to coordinate with an array of tops in royal blue, white, coral, red and more!IMG_8044

It was so difficult to choose one ensemble to showcase and accessorize as I had endless combinations that would compliment the Kate Skirt wonderfully. Seeing as I always gravitate towards bold summery colours, I thought the Classic Bombshell Tank in Coral from Le Bomb Shop paired perfectly with the pink floral accents along with plastic bangle bracelets in blue/green and my Demi Mint Wedges from BAIT. There is really no need to add a petticoat as the structure really creates that fullness naturally.

IMG_8038 IMG_8037There is something to be said for practical wardrobe staples that allow us to showcase our personal interests on a modest budget. Voodoo Vixen offers fabulous affordable designs like the Kate Skirt while not sacrificing quality. Great news for peacock lovers alike, this stunning novelty print is also available in two dress styles, the Kaylynne and Cindy. As an extra special treat for all Pin Up Persuasion readers, Voodoo Vixen is extending an exclusive 20% off coupon valid site wide until July 31st with code pers20 at checkout!

Candy Wonderland Dreams

The sun is shining, it’s hot and summer is in full swing earlier than ever…HOORAY for pretty dress season!!! My official summer kick off was vacationing in Minneapolis while visiting my bestie Amber; I brought all the new additions to my collection that I had been patiently waiting to wear post surgery. There was no doubt in my mind that the Priscilla Candy Stripe Midi Dress by The Pretty Dress Company needed to make its striking debut as we took  ‘ole Vera the 1948 Buick Super 8 for a Sunday spin to the Minnetonka Drive in.

Available in sizes 8-18UK ~ MSRP £155.00

IMG_8175 IMG_8173As I steadily add more pieces from The Pretty Dress Company to my collection, I can attest that their sizing is always on par with the size charts. Based on my measurements: bust 36″, waist 27″, their size 10UK(Small) is a perfect match. When the Priscilla Midi Dress arrived, I was instantly taken back by the substantial weight of the gorgeous cotton sateen fabric. This was no flimsy cotton summer dress….the Priscilla was what candy wonderland dreams are made of! Like a child in a candy store, I was so incredibly excited to try it on. The fit was consistent with all my TPDC dresses, perfect in the bust and a little loose in the waist but easily belted in. The straps were a bit too long for my short torso and not adjustable so I had my seamstress shorten them, which was very inexpensive to do. The Priscilla Midi Dress features a classic scoop neckline with spaghetti straps, a lined fitted bodice, a full midi skirt with large pleat detail, hidden pockets and back invisible zipper closure. The element that takes this classic design to the next level is the vibrant candy stripe fabric that evokes one’s inner childhood memories of carnivals, fairs and summertime fun. At 5′-4″ tall, the skirt falls a few inches below the knees.

IMG_8179 IMG_8155Sometimes it is very difficult to put the emotions that a dress makes you feel into words…the Priscilla Candy Stripe Midi Dress did exactly that to me. If it weren’t for the heavyweight fabric, I would want to twirl endlessly to showcase the gorgeous rainbow colours as they are so utterly spectacular. I know some of you are sitting there wondering, “is this dress really worth the high pricetag?” and I can say without a shadow of a doubt…YES!!! The quality and craftsmanship is far superior than most vintage reproduction brands; the attention to detail is seen and felt in the Priscilla. Such a classic yet simple design, the vibrant coloured candy stripes really make this a bold statement dress sure to garner compliments where ever you go.  With the fabric being so thick and lush, be sure to follow the care instructions closely when pressing (iron inside out) and washing (dry clean). Being the klutz that I am, I got a little smudge of ketchup on the skirt while at the drive in but luckily able to quickly get it out with a Hand Wipe and avoid a costly dry cleaning bill. Lastly, be ready to get asked where your dress is from and/or if it is true vintage…it really captures the reverence of many.

IMG_8183 IMG_8172Oh my word…I had way too many options to accessorize the Priscilla Candy Stripe Midi Dress!!! The rainbow of bold summery colours were such a delight to showcase from head to toe. Impossible to only accessorize in one colour, I chose to vary all my accessories to capture the whimsy of the marvelous print. From a purple thin belt, to a wrist full of multi-coloured plastic bangles, down to the Demi Mint Wedges by BAIT, finished off with a vintage white wicker handbag. With the pleated skirt being so full, I added a white petticoat for a little extra volume.

IMG_8181 IMG_8161After being cooped up for several weeks while recovering, I could not have asked for a better kick off to summer wearing such a magnificent dress that gave me such warm fuzzy feels inside and dazzled on the outside. The Priscilla Candy Stripe Midi Dress is sure to bring delight to any and all occasions. Viva Las Vegas 19 Recap

As promised, my bestie Amber gives us a quick highlight of the Viva 19 festivities for those of us who could not attend. Needless to say, we are all VERY excited to take part in the big 20th Anniversary happening next year! See you there!!!

PinUp at Heart

Ahhh, Viva.  I know its been 2 months since Viva ended, but sometimes it takes that long to recoup.  Forgive me for my tardiness.

My favorite part of Viva this year was definitely seeing friends.  I get to see most of these people once a year and while Viva is a complete whirlwind we try to  make the best of our short time together.

We started off Viva by trying out a new Tiki bar in the area – The Golden Tiki Room.  It’s in an unassuming strip mall just down the road from the Orleans.  *Tip – sign up for their text message alerts before Viva.  Often times they text out deals/coupons.  I got a free Pineapple Dole Whip with Rum (think alcoholic Disneyland drink).  I have to be honest – I wasn’t blown away by their customer service (it took the bartender 20 min to even acknowledge us…
