Colour is the Fruit of Life

What happens when the thing you have the biggest aversion to is combined with something you have a serious weak spot for? Throw caution to the wind and be a little reckless right?!? That is exactly what I did when I decided to take the leap with the Jade Fruity Swing Dress by Collectif. If anyone looks into my closet, they would be hard pressed to find anything in black but instantly see a rainbow of vibrant colours with lots of delicious fruity prints.

Available in sizes 6-22UK ~ MSRP £75.00

Lately with my waistline fluctuating, I wanted to be certain the Jade Fruity Swing Dress would fit comfortably therefore I ordered a size 10UK. To my surprise, it fit quite generously and I could have likely sized down even with my 28″ waist. Luckily the matching wide belt allows you to cinch in the waist for a perfect fit.  The Jade Fruity Swing Dress features lovely sweetheart bodice with princess seams, double adjustable straps with bow detail, a full skirt with pockets and back zippered closure. The skirt is adorned with delightful pineapple, banana and strawberry trims. At 5′-4″ tall, the hemline falls just below the knees.

Collectif really got me to see past my strong aversion to the colour black when they designed the Jade Fruity Swing Dress. For some reason I expected a lightweight cotton summer dress but was really pleasantly surprised by the substantial weight and structure of the design. The fabulous stretch cotton sateen makes this dress superior in quality and very figure flattering I must add. The subtle sweetheart neckline is quite modest for us bustier ladies and of course the adjustable straps are a huge win for us petite ladies too.  It is the perfect mix of classic with a little pizazz; I simply adore their unique twist with the  fruity rick rack trim detail. Needless to say, it was a huge hit while on vacation in the Caribbean too…the staff complimented everywhere I went and a couple said I looked like island girl.

Of course my natural instinct was to play up the bold tropical colours in the fruity print when accessorizing Jade Fruity Swing Dress. Pairing the ensemble with a 1940s inspired red turban by Sarah’s Doo Wop Dos, Vintage Bakelite jewelry in yellow, red, green,  and black along with the fabulous Lulu Hun Simona Wedges in yellow. These wedges are super comfortable and versatile to pair with any ensemble. I comfortably fit in a UK4, which converts to a size 37 and I typically wear a 6.5-7US. (Available in sizes 3-8UK ~ MSRP £35.75)

Sometimes we can really surprise ourselves by the simple joy of trying a new style that turns out to really boost your inner confidence. The Jade Fruity Swing Dress made me feel fabulous again after suffering from major winter blues. I have a funny feeling the Simona Wedges are going to quickly become a staple in my colourful summer wardrobe.

Delectable Fruitiness

With endless fashion inspiration from the 1950’s, we are truly fortunate to see these classic silhouettes being recreated with a modern twist. Little do many of us realize, the fabulous Hawaiian sarong dresses also come from decades past and are one of the most figure flattering styles that suit all shapes and sizes. When Miss Fortune decided to mix the classic sarong design with fruity novelty print, the Allure Dress in Kiwi became the quintessence of summer fun!

Available in sizes XS-2X in a variety of prints ~ MSRP £56.99

IMG_8344Based on my past experience with Miss Fortune sizing, they are cut a little more generously than the size charts. I was very unsure if the size small would accommodate my large hips, therefore I consulted with Laura at Miss Fortune who recommended to keep with my usual size. (On a side note, my measurements have fluctuated up from the norm post surgery and are currently 36-28-40.) The waist and bust fit spot on but as I had suspected, my hips are currently a little too wide for comfort in the size Small Allure Dress. Luckily, there was a very easy fix to slim those extra inches with my trusted Rago 1294 Girdle. The Allure Dress features a sweetheart halter bodice with faux wrap sarong skirt adorned by a bamboo buckle, a black slit and zipper closure. Made from non stretch cotton, the vibrant lime green kiwis pop deliciously against the sky blue background. At 5′-4″ tall, the sarong skirt falls a couple inches below the knees.

IMG_8334 IMG_8330If you are looking for a fun summertime look, the Allure Dress in Kiwi will feel like a ray of sunshine wherever you go. The vibrant lime green and sky blue are an instant pick me up, I can’t help but feel cheerful in this little number. I enjoy the simplicity of the design and appreciate the wider halter tie straps so that they don’t tug uncomfortably on my neck. The faux sarong front pleating works wonderfully to conceal those trouble areas if you normally shy away from form fitting wiggles. Made from 100% cotton with zero stretch, the Allure Dress is ultra lightweight and perfect for those scorching hot days.

IMG_8341With a huge adoration for fruity motifs and Hawaiian inspired fashions, I knew instantly that I had too many accessories to choose from to pair with the Allure Dress in Kiwi. To keep my look complimentary, I paired the Allure with a mix of bamboo and lime green bangles, white espadrilles and finished off with the Triple Orchid Hair flower in green by Miss Fortune. As mentioned earlier, my foundation garment is the Rago 1294 Girdle which cinches in my hips and creates the illusion of a hourglass silhouette.

IMG_8336 IMG_8342The Allure Dress is a fabulous example of taking inspiration from vintage and adapting it to the needs of the modern day fashionista. For many of us who strive to look put together despite out hectic lifestyles, the Allure Dress will be your fun and easy choice this summer. Also available in lobster print, Hawaiians scenic motifs, sail boats and more!
