Our little world of vintage reproduction clothing is truly one of the greatest communities when it comes to supporting small businesses. WE are the reason they are making such fabulous fashions and thinking outside the box to give their customers exactly what they want. As some of you may already know, Kiss Me Deadly is a small independent British company making fabulous vintage inspired lingerie. For the past few years, they have expanded into designing equally classic style swimwear. Until now, they relied on stores to raise money to put their designs into production but it appears they (the stores) just want the same designs as before in other colours. Meanwhile, the Kiss Me Deadly customers are going gaga over the gorgeous new designs…check them out!!!
For the first time ever, Kiss Me Deadly is cutting out the boring middle man and asking for the support of their fans to make these magnificent designs a reality! They have launched a Kickstarter Campaign and your contributions will make this dream a reality. By pledging £69, you’ll have your choice of ONE of the 4 main designs (your choice of style and size). Choose from the Leopard print Deluxe swimsuit, the Leopard Print Cora Bikini, the Lauren Ivory and Black Bikini, or the Flamingo Playsuit with free worldwide shipping. Normally these beauties would retail for £75 plus shipping. If you wish to contribute less or more, there are a variety of rewards like jokes, thank yous, art prints, and even a custom made swimsuit.
The Swim with Sharks from Kiss Me Deadly Kickstarter Campaign deadline is this Sunday, July 12. They are only half way there and they truly need your help to make this a reality.

Summer has been a bit of a disappointment this year with very few hot sunny days suitable to hit the beach where I live. As it’s quickly winding down, I am getting more and more excited for our upcoming trip to Jamaica next month. Our plans include lounging by the pool and beach, in you guessed it…swimwear! My suitcase is going to be loaded with all my vintage and vintage reproduction suits which will definitely include the Fables by Barrie Vintage Barbie inspired bikini. The Caitlin Swim Bra and Amelia Bikini Bottoms are a fabulous duo when paired together, both pieces I picked up during their yearly end of season sale (currently on now).
Available in sizes XS-2X ~ MSRP $68-70USD
The versatility of Fables mix and match pieces bode well for those of us who have uneven proportions from top and bottom. Originally when I ordered the Caitlin and Amelia, I thought a size Large was the best way to go since I was in between sizes and my hips at the time (42”) actually exceeded that size. Let’s just say, I made a very bad decision with size selection as they were much too large all over and had to exchange them both for a size Medium. Thankfully Barrie was very kind to allow me to exchange them for the proper size with no hassle. When the replacement size arrived, I saw that the Caitlin Swim Bra was not holding in my bust very well and had some severe spillage happening. Since I already knew I had to shorten the band for my narrow underbust, I brought it to my seamstress to see if she could tweak it a little to give me more support since I truly love the set so much. She is one talented lady; she simply inserted two small darts in the cup area which are concealed by the halter straps. Tada! Perfect fit achieved!
The Caitlin Swim Bra features an underwire support, lightly padded, fully lined with adjustable halter straps and two little ribbon bows to add a little cuteness factor. The solid black is perfect to mix with just about any bikini bottoms you already own and of course with several styles in the Fables collection. Since I was adamant in owning a vintage Barbie inspired swimsuit, the Amelia Bikini Bottom in black & white chevron was a no brainer. The Amelia Bikini Bottoms are designed with a high waist, are fully lined and very flattering to your figure. They also can be paired with a variety of bikini tops and available in two other colourways.
When we were in the Bahamas last May for our wedding, I was adamant on finding a black & white wide brimmed straw hat to match my vintage Barbie bikini. Unfortunately, I never found one that was just right but I am still on a mission to get one before our trip to Jamaica. Although a solid black straw hat would pair nicely, I am holding out for the black & white. Simply pair a white tie sarong for a little more coverage while you feel like going for a stroll. Some of you may have spotted that my pinup tattoo of Stephanie Castro is actually wearing a vintage Barbie style bathing suit too!
I absolutely adore Fables by Barrie as a whole; their creator Barrie is such an amazing lady and listens to her customers’ feedback and makes it happen. They not only make incredible swimsuits, but have a full line of sexy Western clothing which includes the infamous Scarlett Bustier that I will review in the near future.
